Hi Prof
What is the score with NimH batteries?
Do they need a different charger than the older nicads?
How long do you charge them for, I know this varies on the Mah rating so say a 4500mah?
Are they compatible with a standard set-up Tamiya car with an ESC?
Also how do they differ to Lipo batteries...?
I have been looking for these answers on the net but no one seems to have a straight answer hence my post here as you seem to have a nack for explaining these things. Cheers, Steve

The wise one answers:
Well my understanding and experience is that they can be treated the same as NiCd in terms of charging etc. They are fully compatible with any car you would run a NiCd in. Charge time does indeed vary depending on input current and capacity, for example a 4500maH charged at 5A would take around 0.9 hrs (54 mins). NiMH cells do offer one advantage over NiCd that they do not suffer from "memory" in the same way. The same cannot be said for Lipo cells, these must be treated very differently including charging. |
