Question: Hi Sckids just followed the excellent advice in the articleson painting my new RR and SS tyres. Now that i've gone all cwoss eyed need some advice on some uprated suspension for the rough rider, just seen the new old tamiya promo and it mentions beefing up the suspension front and rear, can you tell me what modern dampers i can use to upgrade and also i couldnt see the old coiled spring on the front arm or the rear torsion bars when the Promo SS took a tumble, Are these removed when using the spring assisted dampers. cheers

The wise one answers:

Well there are many options for upgrading your SRB suspension. We normally do remove the front springs and rear torsion bars and fit coilover units instead as these are more adjustable. The shorter Platinum Tamiya Hi-Caps are good or even the gold vintage Kyosho (Optima Mid/Laser ZX-R) work well. To be fair though the larger diameter coilovers don't look to scale like the kit ones but we all know these leak like a chocolate teapot. I have heard of others using alternatives like those from the Losi Mini-T or there are aftermarket kits to fit coilsprings with collars onto standard shockers.

Of course you could always wait a little while to see what the new Re-release Rough Rider shocks are like, I bet they've designed some lovely looking more reliable units.
