Question: Hi Prof Skid. I have the Wild One as a runner and find accasionally the diff locks up, it doesn't take much to unlock it by hand or by driving it around. I have put in a complete new diff and counter/spur gear and did place a 0.5mm thick 5mm washer onto the driveshaft inside the gearbox but found this made it tight against the gearbox casings! I've got the correct cup washer, flat washer and plastic spacer each side of the diff as per the kit and instructions, do you think it could be the drive shafts pulling down on the diff when at full ride height with the drive shafts at angles, the car is fully ball raced with new ballraces as well. Hope you can help as i see you guys have got a couple of them yourselves. Many thanks Brent

The wise one answers:

Hmm well it sounds like you've done all the right things. Certainly the driveshafts partially pulling out is possible as these hex driveshafts aren't the best, especially when they wear. They're easily replace now by dogbones from the re-re Frog or FAV though. The other problem is the gearbox does flex and this is sometimes enough to make the diff bevel gears try and jump teeth and seize. I have overshimmed mine so it's tight in the gear casing and it never let me down after that. It's certainly a problematic setup though.
