I have a sand scorcher replica based on a frog, I have used an original whip antenna. I cut the receiver aerial short (10cm)and joined it to the whip using a home brewed ring crimp/nut/bolt combination. The electrical contact between the antenna wire and whip is good but the range I get is much less than I got before I installed the whip, any ideas
The wise one answers:
You should never cut the aerial wire. Only if it's a very long aerial wire you can cut it in half, but measure it before you cut. Also adding any length to it (attaching to whip aerial) will make matters worse. Just put the 10cm back on, and wrap it around your whip aerial. I've learnt the hard way with this subject, it de-tunes the radio if you mess with the aerial length.
